They have been in the majority for two days, and Republicans in the House are already moving forward with a vote on the repeal of health insurance reform. We know why they're trying to ram this through before most people are really tuned in: when Americans know what is at stake, they simply don't want health reform repealed. The Republicans are pushing forward anyway â€" and fast. But this is not a fight we will shy away from. Organizing for America is mounting a large-scale effort to protect this historic legislation. Our plan is not just to defeat repeal in the halls of Congress. Together, we'll shine a spotlight directly on the Republicans who are pursuing it â€" and we'll make sure they know there is a political price to pay for siding with insurance companies over the American people.
It makes me mad: Each one of these Republicans voting to repeal health reform â€" every single one of them â€" has the option of guaranteed health coverage. These Republicans have access to the affordable care they need â€" but they want to end the law that will provide that same coverage for 32 million other Americans who do not. They can afford their prescriptions â€" but they want to roll back the law that makes it easier for seniors to afford the medicine they need. They don't live in fear of an insurance company denying coverage because of a pre-existing condition â€" but they want to go back to the days when insurance companies could discriminate against pregnant women or children born with disabilities.  They don't have to worry about an insurance company dropping their coverage if they get sick â€" but they're willing to cast a vote to say that a woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer can be stripped of her coverage over an unintentional mistake on an application. There's a reason the vast majority of Americans don't want to see this law repealed: It's already at work improving millions of lives and reducing costs for millions more. OFA will be making sure the Republicans' repeal effort doesn't succeed â€" and that those who support it are called out in front of the American people. Our organizing will have phone lines ringing on Capitol Hill. It will put our voices on letters pages in newspapers across the country. And it will ensure our message gets through loud and clear: Health reform is critical to millions of American families â€" and we're all paying attention.
