Protect your pet this weekend of independence day-Patch.com

The fourth of July is almost here and regional Animal Services in King County (RASKC) is asking residents to think about your pets this holiday weekend. Every year around independence day, the area animal shelters are full of pets that escaped after being frightened by Fireworks. Fortunately, there are steps that every homeowner can take to reduce the risk of your dog running and increase the possibility of suit if you lose your pet.

  • Keep your pet indoors the certainty in the quietest room in yourhouse while the fireworks are audible. You can also use as a relaxing music distraction or television. Some pets will be more relaxed when it is placed in a vault in a dark room, quiet.
  • If your pet is normally kept outside, take them inside or put them in the garage or basement, while Fireworks go.
  • Make sure your pet has at least two forms of identification. This can be a license for pets and custom tag, a license and a microchip or all three (license, tag and microchip). Pets with ID has a greater chance of being returned to their owners.
  • Don't assume that your pet does not react because they didn't have any problem in the past. Sometimes animals to be sensitive to loud noises in the future.
  • If your pet lost, check all the local shelters in person and come back often. It may take some time before that is chilling pets to shelters.

To help homeowners who may lose their pets during the holidays, RASKC, joined a national nonprofit organization. During the last few weeks, lack of Pet Association (MPP) helped retrain "Shelter pet Detectives" in RASKC.

On Tuesday, 5 July, through Thursday, 7 July, volunteers will be deployed at the animal shelter, 64th21615 ave s. Kent, to help residents in search of their missing pets. Your booth will be open from noon to 6:0 pm all three days. Volunteers PPB and RASKC will help those who is not your dog in the shelter for advice on how to generate effective tips for people who may have seen your pet. For more information about House Pet Detectives, visit the Web site of lack of cooperation from the pet or contact sarah.luthens@kingcounty.gov.

To complement the residents to shelter pet Detectives, RASKC also maintain their "lost pet" per day. People who are looking for a pet can call 206-296-pets (7387) and press "3" for a list of streets, currently at the shelter. Pet registered in the city of Seattle, call 206-386-pets (7387).
