Toobin: media must be soul-búsqueda after the verdict of Anthony-CNN (blog)

Media should reflect on its coverage of Casey Anthony after Florida woman was declared not guilty of murder in the death of his daughter, legal analyst for CNN, said Jeffrey Toobin.

But he added that the verdict also helps show intense media not necessarily jurors who are willing to convict a defendant.

Lawyer's comments followed Toobin Anthony Mason j. Cheney-after the acquittal of Anthony Tuesday criticized what he called incompetent "talking heads" and a "media murder" by Anthony.

Mason said that "colleagues from coast to coast and border to border condemned this whole process of lawyers on television and talking about cases that don't know something damn envelope and do not have the experience to back up your words or the right to do so.

Coverage in national media in the case began in July 2008, the month of toddler Caylee Anthony's family reported his absence. The coverage was due in part by reports that the family had not reported missing girl until a month before he was seen; the remains of the child were found in a wooded area later that year.

Toobin said he doubted that the Mason team would take legal action against the talking heads that Mason shot against him, saying that the subject "will be treated correctly in the Court of public opinion." But Toobin says that it is safe to say that some in the media was "very negative for Casey Anthony".

"The media's Performance is something that we should discuss," Toobin said.

Former Prosecutor Nancy Grace, whose sister TV network CNN widely highlighted the case, he defended media coverage. "I think it is interesting that his first reaction was to attack the media, as we have already had something to do with it," he said. "We have nothing to do with it;" "This was all tot MOM".

He added that "there is no way that is a verdict that speaks the truth." Also on Tuesday, grace said that "as the defence will feel like the champagne toast after the verdict of not guilty, somewhere out there, the devil is dancing tonight".

Lawyer Debra Opri, arguing that the media areth 13 "jury," said lawmakers may want to see the rights of the accused "..." "What we have, without stepping on the first amendment to protect" a fair trial.

Toobin said Government regulation is not necessary, and that the trial of Anthony and other cases of high profile shows that a review of the media not necessarily judges for issuing sentences.

"(Opri 's) argument ... is that the media had a lot of influence." You know, Nancy Grace was on TV for three years saying (Anthony) was guilty and told the jury the opposite, "said Toobin."Michael Jackson: also was acquitted (of sexual abuse in 2005). " O.J. Simpson-also was acquitted (of murder in 1995). "William Kennedy Smith-also was acquitted (of rape in 1991)."

Tom Mesereau, Attorney of Jackson in 2005 of animator, agreed.

"I think this defence team focused on the Court room, not the media." The media likes to think that will influence these verdicts and look at the history, "Said Mesereau" CNN "in the Arena on Tuesday night, citing the case of Jackson and Simpson, as well as the trial of actor Robert Blake, who was acquitted of the murder of 2005".

Toobin said if coverage of affected Media trial, the influence that they saw in the decision of the Office of the Prosecutor to make this a death penalty case.

"(This) has always seemed wrong to me, since a decision ... the absence of a cause of death (and) a time of death," Toobin said. "To make this a death penalty was famous case I as prosecutors had been spending too much time to listen to people as cable news outraged about the case, rather than evaluating the evidence in the cold light of reality, and I think was where influence in the media, rather than as the jury members behaved."
