Katharine mcphee, star of the upcoming NBC series "Smash", is starting his own contract with Columbia Records, the network showed on Thursday.
-9 June 2011: NBC UNIVERSAL CITY, California and Columbia Records reached agreement on a contract the rights to the soundtrack of NBC's new music series "Smash" and star of the series Katharine McPhee also signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records.
Network "Smash", since half of the season (10-11 p.m. ET) on Monday, NBC, Debra Messing ("Will & Grace") and McPhee ("American Idol") and Oscar winner Anjelica Huston (Prizzi's honor "").
The announcements were made by Robert Greenblatt, President, NBC Entertainment and Rob Stringer, President of Columbia/Epic Label Group.
The agreement guarantees rights throughout the world, digital and physical form of the first season of "smash" with successive options following seasons.
"A musical number, of course must be accompanied by a part of the soundtrack, and NBC is excited to work with the best". Columbia partners will guide the soundtrack to "smash 'em a big component of the series," said Greenblatt. "Music will be a driving force that promises to make a tremendous impact for NBC in January and we could not have asked for the best experience and strategy that the company will provide".
"We are very pleased and proud to be chosen by NBC to work on her new show," said Rob Stringer, President of Columbia/Epic Label Group. "Music is the heart of" smash "and with our partners in publicizing wonderfully creative, we develop innovative strategies for presenting this music to a huge audience.
"smash" is a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and unrequited love of Broadway Theatre, as can be seen in a representative sample of dreamers and conspirators who all have a common desire: to be a "Smash". The soundtrack will be both original compositions by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, Tony and Grammy recognized composers hits Broadway "hairspray" and "Catch Me if you Can", and covers a variety of existing successes combined to indicate the description of this musical series.
Career McPhee launched his famous race on "american idol" in 2006 which was runner-up in the fifth season. Their first album "Katharine mcphee" was released in January 2007 and debuted at the place of the Billboard 200 # 2.the album's first single, "ella", was a Top 30 Pop hit and was certified gold in 2008.
"Intact", second album of McPhee, was released in January 2010 and debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200. The album includes the single "everybody" which crested at number 22 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary. McPhee has already had success with the release of their 2007 Christmas single "O come all Ye Faithful" and "I'll be home for Christmas" in 2009.
Furthermore, it was often on television around the holidays, including an appearance on television in particular annual "Christmas in Washington" held the first family and "My Christmas" starring Andrea Bocelli concert. Shaiman and Wittman also serve as Executive producers. "smash" is a production of Universal Media Studios in association with DreamWorks in association with Madwoman in the attic. The pilot was directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer ("Spring Awakening," "american idiot").
