Equatorial Guinea put up a brave fight in his debut World Cup women on Wednesday, but one goal in 84 of Emilie Haavi minutes gave Norway a 1-0 victory in the opening group d for both teams.
The African party entered the competition as the team ranked 61 in the world, so that the lower rated team plays at the World Cup.
But Equatorial Guinea made things very difficult for Norway, which ranked ninth in the world, pushing the Norwegians and creating a series of possibilities for the attacker Genoveva Anonman.
Haavi had a great opportunity to put Norway ahead within two minutes, when it reached from inside the area after a turnover by defence of Equatorial Guinea.
The possibility of beginning, Norway managed to do little attack in the first half and Anonman almost put his team ahead in the down time of the first half came in the box to the right and drilled a shot straight into the chest of goalie Ingrid Hjelmseth (Norway).
The second half saw Norway to attack with Isabell Herlovsen passing near 12 metres before Herlovsen create an opportunity for Lene Mykjaland, who hit a post.
Norway continued to feel frustrated with the opportunities missed more than three minutes later when a distribution of Equatorial Guinea liquids transported Herlovsen hitting the post from close range.
But the breakthrough finally came to six minutes of time Norway with Leni Larsen Kaurin sending a right cross in front of goal that was inclined to Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Miriam. The ball fell into the path of Haavi and she had easily slotted into the empty net.
Norway would have been hoping for a result much larger before the game, but after a tough battle from the African side, the team happy to escape with three points.
Both parties return to the game in Group d on 3 July with Equatorial Guinea Australia and Brazil meeting Norway.
