Wife of 38 years of a Coruña, who says that he is fighting for his life with Lyme disease, is blaming their plight on the lack of public education and the lack of health education on the fastest growing infectious disease in North America.

And, after sharing your story with the Huron County Council, councilors have voted in favour of a request of Sarnia Lambton MPP Bob Bailey asks the Ontario Minister of health to deal with public health in Ontario and the evaluation system to include all currently available and

scientifically verified tests for the diagnosis of acute and chronic Lyme, do everything possible to create public awareness about Lyme disease in Ontario and internationally developed protocols for diagnosis and successful treatment available for patients and doctors.

Christine Heffer said he expects to visit provincial councils across southern Ontario to spread the word about Lyme disease, an infection tick suffered in 400 thousand people per year in the United States and the increase in southern Ontario.

"It took me four years to receive the diagnosis." Doctors in Ontario did not know what was wrong with me. I suffered many unnecessary tests, procedures and even surgery because of faulty evidence and general lack of knowledge about Lyme disease in this province. Say that this experience has destroyed my life would be short, "he said Huron County councillors".

Heffer said the disease is incurable and fatal if not captured in the early days after the signal, often diagnosed because it mimics other diseases such as MS, Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia, ALS and many more. It took four years for Heffer, who now is $ 1,000 per month in several antibiotics, diagnosis and said she was so disabled by the disease at one point that he could not speak and was confined to bed in.

"With a disease that spreads quickly surprised me that is public health is doing to educate the public about a deadly infection that can be hired in their backyards, while in 2000 the Canadian Medical Association warned was spreading Lyme disease in Ontario, particularly in southern Ontario" "," he said. "I think that public health had Lyme disease education a priority which might not be fighting for my life now."

Heffer, who is being treated in Ohio, because there is no specialist in Lyme disease in Ontario, said patients in Ontario get Lyme face an uphill battle to provide evidence of Lyme is defective and thousands of Canadian patients suffer for years before receiving a diagnosis. He said that the current test produces a false negative 45 to 95% of the time, it has been tested three times and all three times came back negative. Finally found a doctor in Toronto that chose to be treated with antibiotics and her reaction to antibiotics has resulted in a diagnosis of Lyme disease.

"Ill with a fatal disease is difficult enough, but when they go though all the guarantees and protection of society, it is difficult, at least."To talk with people about Lyme disease, most are aware and surprised to find out what you can make a mark, he said.

Compare your experience with as Lyme disease similar to AIDS because it attacks the immune system and all systems of the body, said that Heffer of Lyme extends to seven times faster than AIDS.

"We are at risk, but our children are at greater risk and this risk increases every year," he said, adding that the ticks are the size of a poppy seed, are being distributed in southern Ontario by birds.

I hope that the Council supports this request on behalf of the citizens of the Huron, but more importantly, after learning about Lyme disease I hope everyone here to educate their families, friends and neighbors. "This disease is horrible and insidious, he told Councillors."

He added that Lyme disease is curable if called early and treated with antibiotics.
